Blousons Vs Shirts

198799741.jpg

A blouson top is mostly a loose fitted top that may or may not cover the hips. It is not so tailored to a shirt, hence easily adaptable for various body types. Blouson can be various varieties and they were actually a replacement of shirts for women. Blouson is not very fitted by style, hence there is an ease to the wear unless you opt for the stylised version like a peplum blouson.

A shirt is a tailored top, with button opening at the front from collar to hem. Since it is tailored than a blouson, it has a restriction to wear for women with heavy bust/midriff variation. Shirts were traditionally part of men’s wardrobe, they started seeping into women’s wardrobe in 1950’s.

Both can be as formal or casual depending on the style, cut, color, finish, texture and print/pattern.

You can read about types of Shirts & Blousons and you can also read about formal to casual shirts plus formal to casual blousons.

Colour Contrast for Trouser & Tops

223246984.jpg

The above shirts and pants are same size, what I have done is changed the colour combination.

Lets look at the trousers, the black trousers will visually give a slimming effect because lighter colours expand and darker colours contrast. So if you are heavy from lower body like Triangular body shape / Round body shape / Large Rectangular body shape / Large Hourglass body shape shape

Same rule applies to the shirts. If you have a fuller bust or midriff variation opt for dark colour shirts (or blousons preffered)

A darker top / bottom will always reduce the size of that part of your body, its colour perception or as I like to call it Deceptive styling 🙂

How many Reds do you have?

I love red lipstick and i really love the colour red. My afafir with red lipstick started 4 years back and the first red lipstick I bought , have applied the lipstick and removed it. Wearing a bright colour on your face as makeup or on body as clothes, requires a lot of confidence.

Colour is nothing but a projection of your inner personality. Colour is what you feel from the inside. On the days that we feel cheerful, we subconsiciously pick a bright pink. On days you are feeling blue, you will pick up a pale blue or grey .

Colour is like an instant mood lifter, a quick fix for a dull day.

Back to my love for red. It finised a whole case of my first red lipstick before I could get confident to wear red. Red used to give me jitters, it used to make me feel that am i actally this or projecting a fake person, it used to make me look awkward. Than one fine day, i decided that am not going to remove the colour of my lips. It felt so uneasy, but the moment i started looking at those pictures with me in Red lipstick, i was sold. This colour dominates my makeup box. The colour that made me feel awkward, than confident is now my fail safe colour. I have a red for work, a red for party,  a red for every ocassion 🙂

Business Formal to Business Casual

213167893.jpg

As the name suggests, a few changes here and there will change your look from business formal to business casual. here in this post, we are especially talking about how to use your jacket and vest to convert your business formal attire into a business casual attire.

The first grey jacket starting from the left is a business formal jacket, its elements of design are simply chic and neat.

Line – Straight lines
Shape – rectangular and boxy
Pattern – Simple
Texture – Smooth
Colour – Muted
Print / Pattern – Solid / no print pattern
Fit – medium fit

All the elements discussed above makes the piece of garment a formal one, it depends now how you combine your trousers and shirt with it.

The middle blue-green-black cheks jacket can be business formal or casual depending on the type of industry you are in.

Line – Straight lines
Shape – rectangular and boxy
Pattern – Medium size check print
Texture – Smooth
Colour – multiple colors, muted and dull
Print / Pattern – Medium size classic check pattern
Fit – medium fit

In this except for the print, pattern, and color rest, all elements of design are very formal. hence for a nonserious industry like say maybe media v/s a bank this jacket can be business formal or casual.

The third jacket/vest is definitely a business casual. For me, a vest for men is more like an accessory rather than an additional layer of authority.

Social Casual V/s Business Casual

Social casual events could be a birthday party, dinner at a friends place, etc… and business casual will be events that you attend with business colleagues, like an after office party or in some cases it can be a friday at work or in more relaxed office environment it could be a regular day at work.
Social events could have fitted jerseys, add a lot of colour to it, becauee its a social event, the impression or image to be created is not of a serious worker but of fun and friendly nature. You can also experiment with fun shoes.
With business causal, although it is casual, it is still a buisness day or a buisness event. Your collegues will be there with you and although it does not mean that you have to be very formally dressed always but conservative dressing works when you are trying to create an image amongst office crowd. Opt for more classic cuts and styles, you can wear polo tees or half sleeves shirt, or add some quirky print in small size or few colours to create your own unique personal style.

Personal – Social – Professional Attire for Men

213072896.jpg

Everyone has a different lifestyle, even 2 people living in the same house will have a different lifestyle / the type of people they interact with.

But our lifestyles can be broadly classified into three sections.
Personal
Social
Professional
Depending on what we want to project or create a brand for ourselves we should dress accordingly.

Say for someone working in a bank / consulting firm where their role is more client facing, it is advisable to follow the Business formal wear guidelines, in this case, if you wear denim/chinos and polo tee, you will be perceived as boyish or someone who cannot be trusted with too much responsibility.

The basic idea is we should separate our Personal – Social – Professional attire, a bit of overlapping or mixing clothes is all right but if we dress the same everywhere then we are not projecting the right appropriate image.

Your own Image has various nuances to it, being appropriate to where you are going is one of the important aspects of dressing up.

When you audit your closet, separate your outfits/clothes in these broad sections and then evaluate what you have and what is missing for you to create an appropriate image for yourself.

Pose with Style

So am not expert at posing or clicking pictures. Infact even after so many videos &pictures,  I still get conscious when I have to get a picture clicked, hence I have tons of elevator selfies ;-).

One thing figured out in this whole process of clicking and getting clicked is the way you stand.

Below is my picture, one picture am standing straight facing the camera and in other one am slightly turned to one side, keep your back straight – no hunching, rest your weight on the leg behind, tilting head a bit and a big broad smile. Voila see the difference. So this sounds too much work but trust me its not 🙂

Its not just about the pictures, but improves your whole body language. Once we see our picture looks good, we automatically feel confident about way we have styled ourselves.
